Designed and developed in England

Born on the tabletop.

Fields of Iron is an independent game created in Portishead by gamers and modellers from Posset Wargamers.

Why we made it

We wanted to spend more time playing.

We love WWII vehicles, model making and building detailed battlefields. But we wanted a tank game that could get onto the table quickly, keep both players involved and finish without sacrificing tactical decisions.

So we built one ourselves. The rules were written, tested, rewritten and played again around our own tables in Portishead. That practical, home-grown approach still guides every part of Fields of Iron.

The club behind the game

Made among the gamers of Posset.

Posset Wargamers is a friendly local community in Portishead for people who enjoy wargaming, military history, modelling and painting. Its tables bring together different periods, rule systems and levels of experience, from seasoned players to people returning to the hobby or trying it for the first time.

It is an active, hands-on sort of group: members arrange games and tournaments, share armies and painting projects, talk hobby on Discord and occasionally take on ideas far bigger than the average tabletop. That includes entering Portishead Carnival with plans to build a two-thirds-scale science-fiction battle tank.

Fields of Iron grew naturally in that environment. Early versions were played by people who understand both the pleasure of a beautifully modelled battlefield and the importance of rules that keep a game moving. Their questions, arguments, lucky shots and honest feedback helped turn a home-made tank game into the system we are now preparing to share.

This is a game created at the gaming table, not in a corporate boardroom. The same open, practical spirit continues through our Kickstarter beta testers, whose battles and field reports will help shape the finished first edition.
